My Story

Meet Zakiya Heron-Fortune...

As a woman, one of color, and carrying the burden of a disability, achieving my professional goals earlier in my career was extremely difficult. Having graduated college during a recession, job prospects were limited and competitive. Interestingly, the very industry that was created to understand my personal hardships is where I gained most of my experience—human resources. Working in this industry, primarily for non-profit social service organizations, gave me the opportunity to build relationships with individuals who were a lot like me. It also made me view my hardships simply as differences.

This experience equipped me with the understanding necessary to provide coaching services, allowing me to offer wisdom from the employer’s perspective.

The struggles I have endured throughout my career, combined with my extensive human resources background provided me with the emotional strength and skills necessary to help the newer generations excel in an ever-changing workforce. I can establish connections through personal experience. This is what makes Intrinsic Purpose Career Services unique.

Mission

My mission is to guide young professionals on their journey to identifying and achieving their professional goals as they embrace their differences. I take an empathetic approach to helping clients address challenges unique to them, while navigating a competitive workforce. I am dedicated to instilling confidence in my clients as they develop their strengths and skills on a successful and transformative career path.

Vision

Let your distinctions be your allies. I envision a workforce that will embolden individuals to be their authentic selves in a world full of possibilities.
